Dissertation Title:
Making ex-prisoners into citizens: Processes of state and non-state organizational intervention
Dissertation Overview:
How do state and non-state organizations recognize ex-prisoners as citizens: members of communities who are recognized as belonging? This dissertation examines three case studies of processes through which states and non-state organizations include formerly incarcerated people, especially women, in Wisconsin. I use observations of programs, interviews with policy-makers and providers, and documents to examine the discourses and practices focused on making worthy citizens.
